Child Development – Educational Studies, B.S.

Indiana Tech’s Bachelor of Science in Child Development with a concentration in Educational Studies combines a strong understanding of child and adolescent development with the knowledge and skills needed for a career in education. Designed for students pursuing teaching licensure in Elementary, Secondary or Special Education, the program prepares future educators to support learners of all backgrounds and abilities.

Coursework explores child development, learning theories, instructional strategies and academic support methods that foster cognitive, physical, social and emotional growth. Students learn to create inclusive, effective learning environments, analyze educational research and develop experiences that promote student success.

Upon completion of this program, you will be equipped to work with children and adolescents in a variety of educational settings, using professional communication, ethical leadership and evidence-based practices to support learning and development at every stage.

Note: As part of the Educational Studies concentration, students will take 3-5 classes through University of St. Francis’s (USF) Transition to Teaching (T2T) program, including hands-on field experience through a teaching practicum and a teaching internship. USF’s T2T program is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). One additional USF T2T course is required after graduation in order for students to take licensing exam.
