Project Self

Are funding limitations preventing you from traveling for academic purposes or working on projects that will help you develop professionally? Check out Indiana Tech’s Project SELF (Student Experiential Learning Funds), a new funding initiative that could help you pursue your academic and professional goals.

Project SELF gives Indiana Tech students the opportunity to write grant proposals and compete for funding for projects/activities associated with academic or professional development. This could include:

  • Travel to conferences
  • Funding of student research
  • Funding for travel associated with courses
  • Creative or entrepreneurial projects

Full-time students can apply for grants up to $750. Awarded funds will become available beginning in January, and will be awarded, based on the quality of the proposal. Deadline for proposal applications is Tuesday, Nov. 26. You can view an example proposal to help you get started.

Attend a Project SELF information session on Thursday, Sept. 19, at 12:30 p.m., in Snyder Academic Center Room 252, to learn more about the grant application and selection process, eligibility and potential projects.

If you are not able to attend the information session, contact Dr. Alicia Wireman at AKWireman@indianatech.edu, or Dr.Susan McGrade at semcgrade@indianatech.edu. You can also watch a prerecorded information session here. Finally, you can get more information from the Project SELF Call for Proposals document.

Selection Committee

The Selection Committee* focuses on the content of the grant proposal and its relationship to the criteria outlined in the Call for Proposals. Membership on the Selection Committee consists of various full-time faculty from the three colleges (College of Business, College of Arts and Sciences, and the College of Engineering and Computer Science). These faculty will use a rubric to rank students’ proposals. The top-ranked proposals for both graduates and undergraduates will be awarded grant funds.

*Dr. Alicia Wireman and Dr. Susan McGrade are not on the Selection Committee.

Proposal Deadlines

All completed grant proposals must be emailed to Dr. Alicia Wireman and Dr. Susan McGrade before 11:59 p.m. EST on Tuesday, November 26, 2019. Applicants will be notified of the Selection Committee’s decision by December 13, 2019.
